Huawei Grants HP a License for Key Wi‑Fi Patent Technologies

2026-08-26

Reports indicate that Huawei has signed a multi‑year technology licensing agreement with HP, the U.S.‑based computer manufacturer, permitting HP to deploy Huawei‑developed connectivity technologies in computers and other electronic peripherals sold worldwide.

The agreement was announced on Wednesday, August 26, and covers Huawei’s Wi‑Fi‑related technologies.

Huawei has long regarded patent licensing fees as a source of revenue, while aiming to demonstrate the commercial value of its technologies. The company has concluded multiple cross‑licensing agreements for innovative Wi‑Fi technologies. According to Huawei’s statistics, by the end of 2025, more than 1.6 billion consumer‑electronic devices globally, excluding mobile phones, had utilised Huawei’s Wi‑Fi patents. These products are supplied by well‑known brands including HP, Microsoft, Sony, ASUS, Acer and Amazon.

Based on Huawei’s latest released figures, the company generated USD 630 million in patent and royalty revenue in 2024. Huawei has previously inked patent‑licensing deals covering 5G wireless‑communication technology with companies such as Amazon, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung Electronics, OPPO, Xiaomi and Sharp, as well as major European automakers including Mercedes‑Benz, Audi, BMW and Porsche.

HP described the deal as a “standard‑essential‑patent licence” covering Wi‑Fi technologies. The firm stated that such technologies are widely adopted across the industry, and corresponding licensing arrangements constitute standard practice for manufacturers producing Wi‑Fi‑enabled products.
