On October 8, the Investment Taiwan Services of Taiwan’s economic authority announced that HEXA Technology, a major semiconductor wafer manufacturer, has submitted its fourth application under the "Welcome Taiwanese Businesses Back to Invest in Taiwan Program". The company will further expand its factory premises and production capacity at the Erlin site of Central Taiwan Science Park, with a total investment of approximately NT$17.88 billion (equivalent to around CNY 3.75 billion). The new facility is expected to adopt AI process data analysis and monitoring technologies to improve product quality and shorten lead times.

HEXA Technology’s product portfolio includes 4-inch to 12-inch semiconductor-grade silicon wafers and epitaxy. Back in 2022, the firm announced an investment of over NT$15 billion to set up operations at the Erlin site of Central Taiwan Science Park. It planned to lease roughly 10 hectares of land to expand production capacity of semiconductor silicon wafers for power semiconductors and logic devices, and gradually roll out its 12-inch silicon wafer business.

Regarding the progress of the new plant, HEXA Technology successfully produced its first 12-inch silicon ingot on April 30 this year, marking the official commencement of production operations at the Erlin factory. According to data from the company’s previous investor conference, Phase I construction of the Erlin plant has been completed. The site is ramping up mass production and advancing product qualification, targeting a monthly output of 100,000 12-inch semiconductor silicon wafers by 2027 to prepare for future market demand.

In addition, the company’s board of directors approved in August this year an investment plan of up to NT$15.95 billion for plant utilities and machinery and equipment. Funding sources include internal capital, bank loans and external fundraising to meet future operational growth needs. The investment scheme announced by the economic authority will further introduce AI process data analysis and monitoring systems. The project also plans to install solar power generation equipment and conduct greenhouse gas inventory to steadily advance low-carbon transition.

Statistics from Investment Taiwan Services show that to date, the "Three Major Investment Taiwan Programs" have attracted investments from 1,829 enterprises totaling approximately NT$2.8309 trillion, projected to create more than 170,000 local jobs. Among them, the "Welcome Taiwanese Businesses Back to Invest in Taiwan Program" has seen participation from 367 enterprises, with cumulative investments reaching around NT$1.5358 trillion.
