On June 9, Taiwan-based wafer foundry Powerchip announced it has raised USD 886 million via global depositary share (GDS) offering and employee stock subscription. The GDS will be listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, with each unit representing 15 ordinary shares of Powerchip at an offering price of USD 31.65 per GDS unit.
Powerchip stated that the GDS offering price is equivalent to NT$66.68 per share on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, representing a roughly 5.73% discount to the stock’s average trading price on June 9. The company will allocate the raised capital to equipment procurement and new technology introduction in accordance with its operational roadmap to strengthen global competitiveness.
Approximately 395 million new shares are included in the GDS issuance. Combined with shares from employee subscriptions, a total of 420 million ordinary shares will be issued. With the USD 886 million raised, Powerchip will invest resources to optimize the integration of logic and memory technologies and accelerate its 3D AI foundry operations to fully capture AI market opportunities.
Driven by explosive growth in AI computing workloads, global memory demand has surged substantially. Having long specialized in memory manufacturing processes, Powerchip delivers comprehensive, competitive foundry services to clients by integrating logic chipsets with advanced packaging technologies. Furthermore, amid rapidly expanding demand for AI GPUs, high-performance computing (HPC) and large-scale data centers, Powerchip will leverage its established wafer fabrication expertise and proprietary 3D AI Foundry capabilities to sustain its competitive edge within the fast-growing AI supply chain.
