Huawei and China UnionPay officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Shenzhen to further deepen bilateral collaboration, and jointly released action plans focusing on independent innovation and artificial intelligence.
The signing ceremony took place on May 7 with senior executives from both sides in attendance, marking the official entry of the two parties’ partnership — which dates back to 2020 — into a deeper and more comprehensive stage.
Over the past few years, Huawei and UnionPay have collaborated extensively in multiple areas, including enhancing system security, expanding payment scenarios, advancing overseas business layout, and exploring the application of artificial intelligence in financial payment services.
Leveraging Huawei’s ICT technologies and UnionPay’s comprehensive payment capabilities, both sides have optimized system infrastructure and gradually expanded payment services at home and abroad through products such as Huawei Pay.
Going forward, the two parties will focus on four key directions: first, upgrading ICT infrastructure to improve system stability and security; second, promoting innovative applications of artificial intelligence; third, expanding terminal payment services and advancing the construction of the HarmonyOS ecosystem; and fourth, jointly accelerating global business expansion.
The two sides also unveiled dedicated action plans for independent innovation and artificial intelligence. In the future, they will carry out in-depth joint innovation centered on AI to drive greater intelligence and efficiency across the financial industry.
Huawei excels in underlying technology research and terminal ecosystem development, while UnionPay boasts profound strengths in payment network operations and financial security. The partnership enables strong complementary advantages, laying a solid foundation for building a more stable and trustworthy digital financial ecosystem.
