According to Xinhua News Agency, as of the end of October, the total number of 5G base stations in China reached 4.758 million, representing a net increase of 507,000 compared to the end of last year. 5G base stations account for 37% of the total number of mobile base stations, a 0.4 percentage point increase from the first three quarters.

Data shows that in the first 10 months, the cumulative revenue of the telecommunications industry reached 1.467 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.9%. As of the end of October, the number of 5G mobile phone users hit 1.184 billion, a net increase of 170 million YoY, accounting for 64.7% of the total mobile phone users.
As previously reported, China has successfully achieved the 5G construction goals outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan ahead of schedule. The number of 5G base stations per 10,000 people has reached 33, and the 5G network coverage rate in administrative villages nationwide exceeds 90%. Currently, China is steadily advancing the upgrade from 5G to 5G-Advanced (5G-A) across various regions, with large-scale commercialization of 5G-A covering over 300 cities.
Wang Zhiqin, Vice President of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), stated that there are currently more than 30 million 5G-A package users. Industries such as energy have begun adopting this lightweight 5G technology to further reduce costs.
Meanwhile, research and development (R&D) of 6G technology has been launched, and the layout of related patents is accelerating. Globally, there are approximately 20,000 core patents related to 6G, with China accounting for 40.3%—maintaining a leading position. However, the United States’ share has jumped from 15% during the 5G era to 35.2%, indicating a strong catch-up momentum. Huawei still ranks first in 6G patents with a 15.7% share.
