Today, the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) officially opened.
According to media reports, Volkswagen Group announced at the CIIE that Cuore Cheng, a joint venture between its software subsidiary CARIAD and Horizon Robotics, will independently design and develop System-on-Chip (SoC) in China.

The chip is expected to enter mass production and delivery within the next 3 to 5 years, boasting a single-chip computing power of 500 to 700 TOPS. It will significantly enhance the comprehensive capabilities of intelligent driving systems in real-time decision-making, safety redundancy, and stable operation during high-frequency use.
Han Sanchu, CEO of CARIAD China, stated that the self-developed chip represents a strategic investment totaling approximately 200 million US dollars.
According to Horizon Robotics, Cuore Cheng’s first Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) solution will officially enter mass production in 2025, marking the successful conclusion of the "first phase" of the joint independent R&D cooperation on intelligent driving between the two parties in China.
With the launch of the self-developed system-level computing solution, the "second phase" of the cooperation has officially kicked off. Horizon Robotics will further empower Volkswagen Group to strengthen its local end-to-end intelligent driving R&D capabilities, promoting the large-scale mass production and commercial implementation of high-performance, safe, and reliable integrated intelligent driving solutions.
Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Group, said: "As a global technology-driven enterprise, Volkswagen Group continues to consolidate its innovation foundation in key future technology areas. The Chinese market plays a crucial role in this process. By independently designing and developing system-level computing solutions in China, we are mastering the key technologies for future intelligent mobility. This will further strengthen the Group’s long-term innovation capabilities and drive China to become an important source of global innovation for Volkswagen Group."
