According to comprehensive media reports, lithium ore is a core resource for new energy vehicles. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period (2021-2025), China has achieved major breakthroughs in lithium ore prospecting.
Recently, the State Council Information Office held a series of themed press conferences on the high-quality completion of the "14th Five-Year Plan". It was revealed at the conference that China has made significant breakthroughs in prospecting for strategic emerging industry minerals and built a world-leading resource supply system.
As introduced, China has discovered an "Asian Lithium Belt". Stretching 2,800 kilometers from east to west, this "belt" spans four provincial-level administrative regions: Sichuan Province, Qinghai Province, Tibet Autonomous Region, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. A number of large and ultra-large lithium ore deposits have been found in this important rare metal metallogenic belt.
This newly discovered world-class spodumene-type lithium metallogenic belt has proven reserves of over 6.5 million tons in total, with a resource potential exceeding 30 million tons.
The discovery has greatly enriched the types of lithium ores in China, expanded the scope of lithium prospecting, and provided new directions and potential for lithium ore exploration and development in the country.
In addition to this lithium metallogenic belt, other major lithium prospecting achievements include the Jijiaoshan lithium ore deposit in Linwu, Hunan Province, and the Murong lithium ore deposit in Yajiang County (Sichuan Province).
Notably, overall, the newly added resources of spodumene-type, salt lake-type, and lepidolite-type lithium ores in China have all exceeded 10 million tons respectively. This has increased China's global share of lithium reserves from 6% to 16.5%, and its global ranking has jumped from 6th to 2nd place, reshaping the global distribution pattern of lithium resources.
