NDRC: 8 out of every 10 Humanoid and Quadruped Smart Robots Sold Globally Are Made in China

2026-07-31

Xinhua News Agency reported today that a journalist learned from a press briefing held by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) that in the smart robot sector, eight out of every ten humanoid and quadruped smart robots sold worldwide are manufactured in China.

Jiang Yi, Director of the Policy Research Office and Spokesperson of the NDRC, stated at the press conference that in the biomedicine sector, 38 innovative drugs obtained marketing approval in the first half of this year, including 31 domestically developed innovative drugs. The total value of overseas technology licensing deals for innovative drugs reached approximately USD 100 billion (equivalent to around RMB 676.574 billion at current exchange rates).

In the aerospace industry, the C919 large passenger aircraft has accumulated 41 deliveries and exceeded 130,000 hours of safe flight. The Long March 10B carrier rocket completed its maiden launch and recovery mission with full success, marking a major breakthrough in China’s reusable rocket technology.

From a global perspective, China’s humanoid robot industry boasts outstanding performance. Morgan Stanley previously upgraded its 2026 shipment forecast for Chinese humanoid robots to 50,000 units, nearly doubling its prior projection of 28,000 units.

The institution predicts that China’s humanoid robot market will reach USD 2 billion (roughly RMB 13.531 billion) in 2026, growing to USD 15 billion (approximately RMB 101.486 billion) by 2030 with an annual shipment volume of 446,000 units.

In recent years, China has strived to secure a leading position in the global humanoid robot industry. A growing number of local enterprises are expanding production capacity, cutting manufacturing costs, and deploying embodied intelligent robots in real production scenarios. Meanwhile, the Chinese government has incorporated embodied intelligence into the industrial development plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

Data from market research firm Omdia shows that global humanoid robot shipments hit 13,000 units in 2025, with Chinese companies claiming all top five market positions. U.S. players Figure AI and Tesla ranked only seventh and ninth respectively.
