
Siemens has recently signed an agreement to acquire Precision Innovations Inc., a privately held electronic design automation (EDA) software firm. The acquisition will strengthen Siemens’ AI-driven chip planning capabilities within its EDA product portfolio, empowering semiconductor teams to conduct PPA optimization at the early stages of the SoC design flow.
Precision Innovations develops EDA software built on the open-source OpenROAD framework. Against the backdrop of rising SoC complexity across the industry, its solutions help semiconductor teams assess design feasibility, cut down design iterations and accelerate time-to-market. The deal adds AI-enabled chip planning and design exploration functionalities to Siemens’ EDA lineup, enabling more efficient feasibility analysis and data-backed downstream decision-making while reinforcing Siemens’ existing digital design and verification solutions.
Following its integration into Siemens, Precision Innovations will become a key component of the Digital Design Creation platform. It complements current digital design and physical implementation capabilities to deliver a complete end-to-end digital workflow spanning SoC architecture planning, design implementation and full-chip lifecycle management.
