Sustained expansion in global demand for computing power, data centers and end-user equipment has driven remarkable growth in China’s exports of related power equipment.
According to China Central Television (CCTV), overseas demand has risen sharply for transformers and containerized prefabricated substations. China’s exported prefabricated substations of the highest voltage class have successfully been energized and put into operation in Oman.
A 400kV containerized prefabricated substation has achieved power transmission in Oman. The substation consists of four independent yet system-coordinated integrated prefabricated containers, assembled from 24 standardized functional modules. All design, manufacturing, assembly and system joint commissioning work was completed in China.
Upon arrival in Oman, the modules were spliced and interconnected on-site in a modular, building-block fashion. IT Home noted that this prefabricated modular model drastically shortens construction timelines compared with conventional substations requiring extensive on-site civil engineering and commissioning.
Ji Guanghui, Vice President of Qingdao TGOOD Electric Co., Ltd., stated that the Oman project represents the firm’s exported prefabricated substation with the highest voltage rating and most comprehensive system integration solution. Traditional civil-built substations normally take 18 to 24 months to finish, while the full cycle of this Oman project — from order receipt, production and ocean shipping to on-site installation, commissioning and final power delivery — took less than six months.
The company disclosed that its overseas delivered projects jumped 30% year-on-year in the first half of this year. The booming market stems from two major drivers: first, surging demand for transformers and prefabricated substations fueled by data center and computing hub construction; second, the enterprise’s initiative to formulate regional standards and advance international mutual recognition, expanding competitive advantages at the source through technology export.
Xu Guochuan, Assistant to General Manager of the International Base of Qingdao TGOOD Electric Co., Ltd., explained that the process of adapting full sets of products to overseas standards previously took one to two years. Now, aligned standard frameworks and differentiated supplementary solutions cut this timeline to under three months, slashing annual costs by tens of millions of RMB.
Export statistics show that Shandong Province’s electrical equipment exports hit RMB 26.73 billion in the first half of the year, up 9.3% year-on-year, with exports of substations and transformers exceeding RMB 7 billion. Liu Shuxia, Chief of the Corporate Credit Management Section at Qingdao Dagang Customs, said such power products are mainly shipped to the EU, the Middle East, Africa, South Korea and other regions, with particularly robust export growth to the EU and Africa.
